Old Goa and Panaji are home to some of the most fascinating churches and monuments. Me and my dad spent a cool day ‘on the road’ and explored so much in one day that I had to write a whole new blog post to cover it all.

Here we go…

I woke up early in the morning to hit the road. Dad had promised pizza for lunch and I was looking forward to it!!!!

First, off we headed to the Old Goa Church.

When we arrived and after we bought tickets, an old uncle asked if we needed a guide. We agreed, and soon he was with us, taking us to the side and expounding on the history of Goa.

He had a lot of knowledge about Goa and the church, and also told us that the only Brahma temple was not only in Pushkar, as most people thought, but there was one in Goa as well! Wow!

We explored much of the fascinating Old Goa church, with guide uncle explaining Persian murals, Indian frescos and Christian architecture.

Next stop, the Basilica of Bom Jesus. It was just a minute away from the Old Goa Church, and was equally beautiful.

We passed through the whirl of prayer rooms, rooms with sculptures and hallways where the services occurred.
I couldn’t really understand what he was saying, but from what I gathered, some remains of Gautam Buddha is also there!

What fascinated me the most was the blend of Persian, Christian, and Indian cultures!!!

We thanked our guide uncle for the wonderful tour and headed to our next stop The Panjim Church. It was awesome; pure white, extremely tall and majestic, its architecture left me stunned!!!

And the pics were even better than I imagined.

On the way down from the church, we were bombarded with old ladies charging exorbitant prices for hair looms!!! I’m not into that kind of stuff, but they were using all kinds of tricks to get money out of us.
Dad and I were having none of it, and so we left in a hurry.

Finally, after we escaped the swarms of trinket-sellers, Pizzzaaaa!!!!

We trundled out of pizza parlour an hour later, digesting our wondrous meal. Our vehicle picked us up and we were off to the hotel.

We were soon back at the hotel, and we updated mom on day’s events (making her grumpier than ever about missing out).

Enjoy Old Goa and Panaji!
