Shillong is amazing!!!

But did you know you can even
shop in the clouds there? And the zoo and botanical garden are both remarkable. Of course, who could miss a lunch on the roads? Read on…

Touchdown! Me, mom and dad landed at the Guwahati airport and got into the car that would take us to Shillong.

Dad told me the castle where we were staying, the Tripura Castle, belonged to the 2nd – longest pure royalty generation families in the world! The longest one was in Japan, though.

Wow!

I was pretty surprised to see that our room was accessed only by a moss-covered staircase, and the outer walls were covered in moss, too. Like a little hideout!

The room was very spacious and the bathroom, to my delight, was super clean and hygienic.

The next morning, after a quick breakfast, we headed off to Elephant Falls. We had to climb a lot of stairs, and they were a little slippery so we had to be quite careful while climbing up.

We stood in the pool near the waterfall, and small pedicure fish began nibbling at our feet. All in all, it was pretty fun and the ambience was very soothing.

After a delicious lunch (pink sauce pasta! sizzling brownie! french fries!) in the MLO5 Café (a local favourite roadside café), we headed out for some shopping in the afternoon.

We drove to the market, and we were free to explore. We began bargaining with various winter-gear vendors who were shouting their wares, and even bought a nice padded jacket for me.

But then, just out of nowhere, clouds began settling in. Soon, we were enveloped in a thick fog. We were actually SHOPPING IN CLOUDS!!!

Wow! What an amazing natural phenomenon! The locals seemed used to it, so I gathered that this must happen quite often. How lucky to have the liberty to shop in clouds at your fingertips! I wish I could move to Shillong.

The next day, we visited the Shillong Zoo, and then the Botanical Garden, and we thoroughly enjoyed all of it.

I would love to relive this experience once again, sometime soon.

Enjoy Shillong!
