Mawlynnong (in the state of Meghalaya) is one of Asia’s cleanest villages; and it is truly beautiful. Full of flowers, winding alleyways, and various types of butterflies and birds, it is quite like a little heaven!!!

A must visit place for any traveller!

Naturally, the best part of Mawlynnong was the whole clean, serene atmosphere and the little tree-house! It was just like a little village in a book, with cute houses and a village school and tiny flowery paths!

Eary one morning, we left from Cherrapunji and headed to Mawlynnong. The whole way to Mawlynnong was mesmerising, with waterfalls and mountains all around us.

A few hours later…we reached Mawlynnong!!!

I got off the car excitedly and at once noticed that it was really so clean and beautiful. There were little houses and lots and lots of flowers everywhere. It was EXACTLY like a little village in a book!

Our host, a nice aunty, served us a different-looking vegetable, and when dad asked her what it was, she told us it was a BANANA flower veggie! Wow!!!

We thoroughly enjoyed the food, then I played with the local cat, throwing a ball (made out of a paper-napkin) around for her.

Next morning, we woke up at around 8.00, just in time to hear the school bell ringing.

We decided to go outside for a morning walk.

We enjoyed the indescribable, clean serenity of the village, then we decided to step into a mini tree-house.

We enjoyed the views for a while; clicked lots of pics for memories, spent some more time walking around the village chasing butterflies; then headed back to the guest house for breakfast. After a delicious local brekky, Dad planned a trip to nearby root bridge! Whoopee!

We walked through a little village, and as we neared the root bridge found it was amazingly serene and calm

We climbed onto the bridge and as usual, I was touching everything around me; I was so excited.

After the root bridge, we headed to Dawki, the small border town of Meghalaya (bordering Bangladesh). The place is known for Dawki lake which is formed on the base of Umngot river which originates from Eastern Shillong Peaks.

The water of Umngot river / lake is so clear that the boats floating on it, look as if they are on a crystal glass surface! We did some boating, collected river rocks and played about on a little island.

After a great morning and afternoon, we headed off for Assam, where I was going to spend my birthday!

I really loved the Asia’s Cleanest Village!

Enjoy Mawlynnong!
