Rann of Kutch is India’s largest salt desert! It is a vast expanse of white salt plains, which cover an area of 45,672 square kilometres! Wow! I visited Kutch and stayed at the Tent City with my cousin brother and his family, and I simply loved the unique experience.
The whole landscape was just breathtaking.
We arrived at the Kutch Tent City, a beautiful place filled with white tents, homes, little electric buggies, and a black palace for dinners!
We explored the tent city in buggies and met with a few locals. That night, we ate a traditional dinner and relaxed in our cosy tents.
The next day, we travelled by bus to the Rann of Kutch, the salt desert. India’s largest salt desert really lived up to its name.
All I could see, in every direction, was a white flatland of salt. Beautiful in a unique way.
The salt below my feet was cracked a little and the brown imprint of many shoes was visible beneath.
I dug my feet into the salt, breaking its surface. I had soon dug into the deepest layer, which was a black mud. It was very fun to squish and squelch, and soon my feet were covered in a thick layer of mud.
Digging deeper, I found water! A bit muddy and dirty, it was nevertheless water! An oasis in a salt desert! I laughed at my own joke.
Just then, I bent down and tasted the salt. It tasted EXTREMELY salty, but nonetheless very tasty!
Actually, it’s dangerous to do that because people may have stepped on it with their dirty shoes, but I didn’t care about it!
Me and my family enjoyed the beautiful views and the experience of walking in the great salt desert, and then we headed back to the Rann Utsav, the famous festival unique to Kutch.
After taking the bus ride back to the tent city, we settled down to watch a part of the Rann Utsav show. It was beautiful, with the dancers and actors’ limbs moving gracefully and rhythmically.
I thoroughly enjoyed it.
After the show was over, we had dinner and took a shower to clean ourselves of the mud, dirt ad dust.
The next morning, though, we had to leave. Our stay there was brief. How I wish I could enjoy it all over again; maybe soon!
